$33,200 OTF Grant Helps Improve Safety During & Following the COVID-19 Pandemic

ST.CATHARINES - In 2021, St. Catharines Minor Baseball Association received a $33,200 Resilient Communities Fund grant from the Ontario Trillium Foundation to help improve some health and safety concerns during and following the COVID-19 pandemic. The project will be completed this summer and will give our players and umpires increased access to equipment, and safer equipment storage bins at the parks. This increased inventory of equipment will benefit our members for years to come.

“The St. Catharines Baseball Association provides our community access to physical activity, family time, and sportsmanship. In our city, baseball is about learning how to be a good teammate and competitor, all while having fun. I am elated that OTF is supporting the efforts of the St. Catharines Baseball Association, who will now be able to get more equipment and update the security of their storage bins. I know this support from OTF will give children a better opportunity to play a sport they love, while ensuring costs don’t have to increase for parents” said MPP Jennie Stevens (St. Catharines).

Teams will benefit from additional catching equipment sets to help reduce the sharing of equipment. Umpires will benefit by having the ability to borrow a set of umpire gear for the season, thus eliminating the need to share equipment kept at the park. Safer equipment bins will help protect little hands from getting injured. We are also able to increase our inventory of bats, another shared piece of equipment. Thanks to the $33,200 grant from the Ontario Trillium Foundation, our members will see an increased level of safety during their baseball activities.

"The impact of this Ontario Trillium Foundation grant cannot be underestimated,” said Matt Zimmerman, President of the St. Catharines Minor Baseball Association. “This grant has allowed St. Catharines Minor Baseball to increase their equipment inventory without having to increase the fees for our families. This increased inventory allows us to provide additional equipment to help reduce the need to share equipment as often and the new equipment storage bins at the park provide safer closing mechanisms to help protect against injury.”

St. Catharines Minor Baseball Association is committed to growing the game of baseball in St.Catharines, and offering our families a fun and safe baseball experience. If you wish to enquire more about our Association, please visit our website at: www.stcatharinesbaseball.ca
